A 1U Rackmount PC is a display device made of heavy duty industrial grade steel. Housed in a sturdy metal frame, this unit is attached to server racks and is very convenient for server rooms where there is lack of space. A cost saving solution, the basic model is housed in a 1U frame. Yet other variants can be 2U, 6U, 7U, 8U, 9U or 10U depending upon the size of the rack. The key feature of 1U PC is it’s flip up design that allows the unit to remain open for easy viewing even when the rack door is closed.
Alternatively known as 1U Rack LCD, various models of this unit are available with screen sizes ranging from 17” to 22”. Classification can also be on the basis of type of video input or on the types of features.
Based on the former, the units can be categorized into 1U DVI Rackmount monitor, HDMI Rackmount monitor, S-Video, VGA, Composite BNC Rackmount monitor etc while the latter categorizes them into Short or shallow depth Rackmount monitor and sunlight readable LCD.
While each category has some unique features, some features common to all models are the ball bearing telescopic slides with stopper. This allows the device to be securely attached to the racks. The regularly spaced holes correspond with the holes in the steel bars preventing movement of the keyboard.
The 1U Rack LCD works on the plug and play principle and does not require any additional software or device drivers for operation. Offering multi platform compatibility, they work with IBM, HP, Dell and SUN Microsystems. Brightness, Contrast, Color, Clock, H. Position, V. Position, Phase, Scaling, Auto config, Input select, Multi window, Clear EEPROM, OSD adjust and Save are controlled using the OSD controls. Equipped with agency approvals from FCC, CE, VCCI, TAA and RoHS, these units are constructed with lightweight aluminum and have a black anodized finish.
While some models support resolutions ranging from 1024x768 up to 1600x1200, others support the native SUN resolution.
The 1U Rackmount PC consumes less power, has an analog to digital signal converter board and Standard D-sub 15-pin VGA input connectors. Hot pluggable, these devices also have LEDs that indicate the connection status. Due to all these features, these units are the ideal choice for space restricted environments and are mostly used in network support centers, server rooms, government and military applications, surveillance industries and data centers.
