DVI KVM Switch: A Switching Device Which Enables Control of DVI Based Computer Systems
Written by luecjennifer
DVI KVM Switch is a piece of hardware which can be used to control multiple DVI based PCs or servers. Available in 2 and 4 port versions, this unit is perfect for applications that require analog and digital operation. Useful in server rooms, data or command centers, home office studios, medical centers or industrial environments where multiple PCs are used, these devices also save from additional investment on KVM equipment. Equipped with the benefits and features of easy installation, plug and play functionality, no software or device drivers for installation, they are hot pluggable and a user can add or remove devices without powering down the switch or the computer. These switches are available in PS2 or USB versions. The latter, known as a USB DVI KVM Switch allows the USB peripherals and PCs to be connected to the switch, while the former adapts to PS2 devices. Compliant with the USB 1.1 specifications, they support data transfer rates of 1.5/12 Mbps. Switching between computers is easy and can be done by using the front panel push buttons or hot keys for both PS2 and USB variants. Another common feature to both is the auto scan mode which allows monitoring of computers at repeated intervals. This KVM Switch offers multi platform support and works with operating systems such as DOS, Win3.X, Win95/98/98SE/2000/ME, WinNT, Netware, Unix, Linux. Other beneficial features include supporting resolutions up to 1600 X 1200 @ 60Hz, and relay of signals at zero pixel loss. These devices also have a LED that indicates the status of connected PCs. Also compatible with extenders, which would allow these switches to be placed in a secure location and the peripherals at a distance away from them. This enables a noiseless operation in harsh work environments and or extra security when needed. Digital inputs such as flat panel displays, data projectors, plasma displays, digital TVs and set-top boxes and analog video inputs like traditional monitors and TVs can be connected to the DVI KVM Switch. A compact sized desktop unit enclosed in a metal casing, it has female PC and console port connectors. Due to all above mentioned features, these devices enable a user to save time, space, money and power.
