Video Matrix Switch: Route High Resolution Video from Multiple Sources to Multiple Displays
Written by luecjennifer

A series of interconnection possibilities can be created using a Video Matrix Switch which connects multiple display devices to multiple sources. Each display device can be independently connected to one or all displays. Display devices like LCDs, CRTs, and Projectors are all supported by these switches. Depending upon the type of video signal which is relayed, this device can be further classified as a Composite Matrix switch, VGA Matrix switch, VGA AV matrix switch, DVI Matrix Switch, HDMI Matrix Switch, Component Matrix Switch and CAT5 AV Matrix Switch. During the process of relaying the signals, there is no ghosting or data loss and signal integrity is maintained. Video resolution up to 1900 x 1200 can be supported by the Video Matrix Switcher. Connections can be secured using standard UTP/STP cables or via normal VGA cables depending on which switch is being set up.

When connected using Cat5 cables, the distance of audio and video signal transmission can be extended up to 1000ft without affecting the high quality video resolution and all this at an inexpensive price. A key feature of the matrix switcher is eliminating the need to constantly disconnect and reconnect the source and display devices since many inputs and outputs are supported. These switchers vary in sizes ranging from 2x2 desktop units, up to a 32x16 rackmount version with the ability to cascade for larger configurations. Many units also support stereo audio sound. Control over this Video Matrix unit is exercised using front panel push buttons, RS232, Infra red remote control or via IP. The LEDs in front indicate the status of the selected devices.

Consisting of a combination of a video splitter and a switch, this device does not require any additional software or device drivers for operation and works on simple plug and play functionality. Supporting multiple platforms, this switch works with Windows 200, XP, Linux, Mac and SUN operating systems. Color, Contrast, Brightness, Sharpness, Level and Gain can all be adjusted using the OSD menu selection. Equipped with agency approvals and certifications from FCC, CE and RoHS, they have 15-pin HD connectors which are used for all computer-video input and output connections. The Video Matrix Switch is perfect for environments where we need to view information from many computers on many displays. Digital Signage applications, conference and training facilities etc. are some such examples.
