Information and types of KVM Switches
Written by luecjennifer

KVM switch stands for a keyboard, video, mouse switch that allows the user to connect multiple computers to a single keyboard, video and mouse; it could also work in the reverse direction. These switches are widely used in controlling a pool of servers in data centers. Through these switches you could save equipment, time, space, money and power; they also support user terminals at both ends which actually allow local as well as remote access to all the computers or servers.

The different types of KVM Switch that are available are DVI KVM Switch, Dual Video DVI KVM Switch, Dual Video PS2 KVM Switch, PS2 KVM Switch, PS2 KVM Switch With Audio, USB KVM Switch, IP KVM Switch, CAT5 KVM Switch. DVI KVM Switch simultaneously allows the user to display and monitor video signals from 4 different computers or video sources on to a single screen using keyboard and mouse operation.

Dual DVI KVM Switch is a hardware device that has been designed in such a way that the user could use a single keyboard, dual (two) DVI video monitors and mouse to control multiple computers with dual video connections; these switches have been made available in 2 and 4 port versions with PS2 mouse and keyboard and DVI-I video connections. USB KVM Switch permits the user to control up to 16 USB computers using one USB keyboard, mouse, and VGA monitor; it’s a perfect solution for managing multiple USB servers from one location.

USB DVI KVM switch permits users to attach their computers to the keyboard and mouse either via PS/2 or USB interfaces; they are generally used in workstations in supervisory systems, server farms etc. IP KVM switch permits remote access to manage connected computers to the IP KVM via TCP / IP network. Cat5 KVM Switch permits the user to connect multiple computers or servers via cat5/6/7 UTP cables to the switch and thereby control by using a single keyboard, video and mouse.
