VGA Extender: Extend Clear VGA Video Over a Long Distance
Written by luecjennifer

An electronic device used to transmit VGA video over Cat5 / Cat5e / Cat6 UTP cables to long distances is the VGA Extender. It operates without hampering the resolution of the relayed signals. This piece of hardware lowers the overall cost of your system by increasing its lifetime via better media player protection. The greatest advantage being that you can put your expensive content PCs in a secure, temperature-controlled backroom where they can easily be accessed and maintained by service people. These extension devices increase the signal strength from a VGA port and are extensively used in schools, restaurants and conference rooms. By eliminating the excessively long cables used between the monitor and the computer, they act as a cost efficient mode of transmitting video signals.

The VGA Video Extender is available as a Cat5 VGA Splitter Extender with 1/2 / 4 / 8 ports to extend VGA Video from one source to multiple locations. The options available are VGA Video / Audio which will transmit both VGA Video and Stereo Audio over standard Cat5 UTP cable or VGA Video / RS232 Extension for use in digital signage configurations. Easy to install and requiring no additional device drivers for operations, they work on simple plug and play functionality. Sharp and clear images with resolutions of up to 1900 x 1200 along with equalization and video signal gain adjustment is provided by these devices. The Cat5 VGA Extender is composed of a local transmitter that connects to the video source and a remote receiver that is placed next to the monitor.

The two VGA Extender units are connected via Cat5 / Cat5e / Cat6 UTP cable and are powered using the included 12V power supplies. Some models of this extension device are available with a unique dual screen receiver which allows transmission to two back-to-back screens at the same time thereby doubling the value of your system. Compatible with various operating systems, these extension devices can be connected to any video source with a VGA connection. They work well with PCs, DVD players, VHS, DVRs etc. Since the VGA Extender provides secure access, control, and management, it is used by military, financial and government agencies.
