VGA Switch: Simultaneous Transmission of Multiple Video Signals to a Single Output
Written by luecjennifer
Video from multiple sources can now be viewed on a single display device without the hassle of unplugging and re plugging multiple cables. This is possible by using a VGA Switch. In places where there is a shortage of space and clutter caused due to multiple cables needs to be avoided, this hardware device plays an important role. Compatible with PCs, MACs and SUNs with VGA video as well as various other VGA video sources such as VHS or DVD players, this switch works on plug and play functionality. A user needs to connect the video source and display through VGA cables to the input and output of the switch. Without installing any additional drivers or software but by simply powering the connections, the device is ready to be used. Since this video switcher is connected through VGA cables, the output image is crystal clear with a resolution of 1920 x 1440 @ 60Hz. High bandwidth of up to 250 MHz is also supported by this device and it can be used in places where streaming of high resolution video is required. Available in 2, 4 and 8 port units, these switches are rack mountable. Equipped with a daisy chaining feature, these switches can be cascaded for larger applications. Switching of the signals is done via push buttons in front of the unit or via infra red remote control. In addition to the push buttons, control of the more complex VGA Video Switch is done through RS232, Infrared or TCP/IP. CE, FCC, RoHS compliant, this device supports the DDC1, DDC2, DDC2B, DDC2B+, DDC2AB protocols. The three types of switches which are commonly used are manual switchers, automatic switchers and matrix switchers. The matrix switch version comes in 2x2, 2x4, 2x8, 2x16, 4x4, 8x8, 16x16 & larger units and is a combination of a video switch and a video splitter. Some switchers are also available with audio option and can switch balanced and unbalanced stereo audio. The key benefit of this device is that it allows a user to present information from many computers to a single device simultaneously. Due to this facility, the VGA Switch is commonly used in Digital Signage applications, Classrooms, Boardrooms, Remote monitoring facilities etc.
