Manufacturing Facilities Now Using Dynamic Signage

Previously in production facilities we have seen the old notice board when you enter the reception area and even on the facility floor, these have been used to inform employees and visitors alike about the company.   Now it seems that technology is creating a buzz and the notice board is being replaced by digital signage, many organisations who have a production facility are deciding to replace the old notice board and put up LCD screens, these are then networked on the same data infrastructure that the computers run off. The content is added by the marketing department and it can quickly be changed, for example if a visiting dignitary sends someone because they are sick, within 30 seconds the greeting on the reception sign is changed to the new name and it shows the corporation is on the ball.   This is fine in public areas, however when a customer visits and you wish to show them round your factory, this is an ideal opportunity in enforcing your service brand immediately on your guest, as soon as they see the large displays in the manufacturing areas they will certainly be astounded, it also shows that the business invests in new technology and is ahead of the game.   But there is one problem even commercial displays are not designed to be used in areas were damaging air borne contaminants are, most manufacturers have some form of corrosive element in the air, from coolants to carbon particles if these get into the rear of the display it is only a matter of time until the screen dies.   The remedy – is to put the screen in a ruggedized LCD enclosure , these provide IP65 (NEMA 4X) protection, so they can even be washed down with high pressure water jets, perfect for any food manufacturing company. With the success of digital signage, it is now creeping every where from airports, train stations and gas stations. Now let us discuss the options for digital signage for taxi cabs.     There are several options for taxi cab digital signage, they stem from screens built into the drivers and front passenger headrests, these run from internal memory cards that hold the content, these can be used to display local hotels, restaurants and even things to do during your stay. We all have to fill our cars, trucks and vans with gas but who actually goes into the adjacent convenience stores attached to the petrol stations?   On a recent visit to Massachusetts we where running low on gas, so we spotted a gas station and decided to fill up, on entering my credit card, the terminate greeted me with "welcome Dave Bradley", now if they can do this surely they are monitoring what you purchase and then a third party could be possibly selling the information to marketing organisations, so you can be targeted on the products you buy when visiting a gas station.   Before pay at the pump became popular, the convenience stores were doing pretty well, as most people (and me included) normally purchased sodas and sandwiches for lunch whilst paying in-store, now with pay at the pump the stores are looking for new ways to market their merchandise and digital signage is a sure way to do this.   Is this something of the future or just around the corner? Image paying for your gas at the pump and seeing on the digital display a sandwich and drink offer and hitting a key to "buy it now" and including it on your payment for the gas, before the receipt is printed out one of the stores staff brings your purchase out to you at your vehicle.   What would it take to do this? Just a couple of tweaks of the digital signage software possibly and this is another reason gas pump advertising is so successful- due to its flexibility. Outdoor TV Cabinet

Gone is the yesteryear age were people watch Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) televisions and it has been replaced by new technology in plasma and LCD televisions, this displays are now being used outdoors in our backyards to entertain us whilst we kick back or whether you are deploying digital signage.   Remember the last time you missed the game? Remember when the family comes round and you are all outside talking and you keep glancing at your watch? Well now you will never miss your favourite television program, because the technology has advanced so much you can have your own outdoor home cinema.   The simplest way to create an outdoor TV system is to house the television in a protective case that will offer protection from vandals, theft and the weather, alternatively you can buy an all weather TV. Then you need some sort of outdoor speakers, there are several on the market one pair I have are wireless, all you do is plug the receiver into the TV and the audio is transmitted wirelessly to each speaker. This is the most simple set up possible with the TV mounted onto an external wall, so the cables come directly out of the wall into the case and TV.   It gets a little tricky when you want to run cables across your garden, as you have to protect the cables form accidental cutting with garden tools. Then you have to run cables through this conduit to the television and sometimes it does get messy. Touch screen Kiosks and Understanding problems before they happen

In the past 3 years there has been a major shift in business thinking regarding digital signage and the use of interactive kiosks. These touch screen kiosks change the nature in which a business communicates with its customers, with one major pitfall.   Many businesses who have existing digital signage adopt interactive signage thinking they can use the original signage campaigns - wrong! The content has to be created around the interactive experience and layered so the company controls the overall messaging whilst the customer controls the specific elements that are relevant to them.   Solution.                One way to do this is to offer multiple choice experience that guides the consumer along as they discover more about a product or service, they can make comparisons between the products and then when they have made a choice you can inform them that the particular product just happens to be on sale for today only.   Benefits. With this approach there are two benefits for the business: A customer who is given targeted information rather than generic information will normally make a purchasing decision. The business is building a detailed profile of its shoppers, their needs and requirements that can be used for other digital signage campaigns.   Knowing your foot traffic. Interactive kiosks are a good way to monitor the amount of foot traffic in store, if this tails off over a period of 2 months, you can reinstate old campaigns that pulled customers in, rather than waiting to find the store totally empty.   Other ways to monitor foot traffic is to install simple traffic counters these are the beam devices in store that are linked to a counter and every time some breaks the beam the counter increases.   A video monitoring system is good as it indicated what areas are popular by the amount of linger time, this is the time they spend looking at a particular range of clothes in the ladies wear department.
