Video signals can be extended from the source device to a display device located over a long distance with the help of a Video Extender. The signals are transmitted over Cat5/Cat5e/Cat6 cables eliminating the need for bulky cables. With the use of Cat5 cables, bright, sharp, high quality video at resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 can be delivered.
Consisting of a local transmitter and a remote receiver which are connected to the video source and the display device respectively, this extender allows for adjustable signal length as well as equalization. Both the remote as well as the local unit are connected together via Cat5 cables.
There are many form factors to choose from as this extender is available in a point-to-point version as well as 2, 4, 8 and 16 port splitter versions.
Additionally, they are available in many video formats, including the VGA Extender. These devices increase the signal strength from a VGA port and allow it to be passed over a Cat5/Cat5e/Cat6 cable from a computer to a display placed up to 950 feet away. These extenders are used to extend analog signals and are compatible with any operating system and any video source with a VGA connection, including PCs, DVD players, VHS and so on. The unit is built in a durable metal case for excellent protection while its compact size allows for painless installation. With simple to use features, operation and control is easy.
Another format is the KVM Extender.
This device provides the ability to remotely control a computer with its connected peripheral devices. A distance of up to 1000 feet is possible by connecting the local and the remote units via STP/UTP cables, but for even greater distances the KVM over Fiber version can be used. The latest models of these extenders support either PS/2 or USB keyboard and mouse and VGA or DVI video. These extenders provide various advantages such as protection of sensitive hardware as the servers and PCs can be isolated from the individuals controlling them or remote operation of equipment in clean room environments.
The Video Extender is being used in many businesses and organizations including educational, corporate, entertainment, financial as well as government and military arenas. Beyond these traditional uses, it is ideal for interactive digital signage applications.
