The HDMI Splitter allows users to deliver video and audio streams to up to eight high definition displays simultaneously via HDMI. Following the plug and play principle, this splitter uses a single cable to connect the HDMI output device to the splitter and then to each HDTV display. HDMI can transmit video and audio over a single cable thereby reducing clutter. It works with HDMI or DVI-D, and HDCP-enabled HDTV. Some models are backward compatible with DVI-D.

In some configurations, a greater number of displays can be connected by chaining multiple splitters together to create a larger distribution. A HDMI Video Splitter is a compact HDCP compliant audio/video device supporting HDTV resolutions up to 1080p and computer resolutions up to 1920 x 1200. It has received RoHS, FCC as well as CE certifications. Devices such as Set-top boxes, DVD players, D-VHS players and play stations can all be connected using these splitters. They can be controlled through push buttons on the unit, RS232 or optional methods such as infrared and TCP/IP. Main features of this device are compatibility with any operating system, ease of installation and no requirement for additional software or drivers. Due to the ability to amplify and boost the signals, this device is also known as a HDMI Distribution Amplifier. It can split the video signal, duplicate it and distribute it to multiple displays without converting digital signals to analog and then back to digital but by keeping all signals in an uncompressed digital format.

These splitter units are available in a wide range of sizes such as 1x2, 1x4, 2x2, 2x4, 4x4, and 2x8 models. This device is popular due to the fact that uncompressed digital format ensures the best picture quality and HDMI allows content providers to ensure that their intellectual property is protected through HDCP. Using HDMI assures that the best picture quality achievable is displayed. All these factors ensure that HDMI Splitter is the best device for digital signage applications as well as classrooms, control rooms, conference and training centers and remote monitoring facilities.
