Taxi Cab Digital Signage 2010/02/06 09:20 Karma: -2
We have just launched a new enclosure that will take 2 LCD screens back to back complete with a media player, they can be mounted on top of the tap cabs in full view of all pedestrians.

Perfect for outdoor digital signage, we have the solution if it is for any where outdoors, such as:

Gas Stations
Sports Arenas
Taxi Roofs
Transportation hubs
Well any where and we are very cost effective.

Does anyone know whether it's illegal to have LCD/Plasma screens with animation mounted on the top of the taxi cab in Australia or other parts of the world?

It is Illegal in New York and most of the U.S. Once you get above about 10 mph or so you need to have only static images on the screen. You are also limited to your selection of colors that you can use. With our taxi systems we can have it triggered so that motion ads will play while the vehicle is idle and only static ads will play while it is moving. This helps eliminate any concerns. The funny thing is that there are moving ads all over in Vegas that can distract drivers, but put it on top of a Taxi or a Bus and that somehow puts drivers in danger.. Go figure right?

Thanks for the reply. Good to know that someone has done their research. So with your digital signage solution is it connected to the car's speedometer using RS232? That's very interesting.
In terms of colours, what are the limitations? Not too bright?

What are the fines if you are found to breach this law?

Yes, you do have to research the country law too, as you can appreciate all laws are different.

Our solution runs prity much similar to Bobby's and we are the only 2 companies in the world offering this solution - quite specialised.

We are currently working on projects in Paris and Spain and the two requires are very different. Static images whilst moving and video when stopped.

Regards

Graham

I don't want to get to specific on the details of the unit seeing as a competitor is reading this as well. ;) But we do know the laws and specifications that are required to have this work in any part of the U.S. or the world. I don't know much about the fines that would be incurred for not adhering to these laws, but I am thinking pretty severe. They are worried about public safety, and that is a big deal. New York is the comparison point that will most likely be set as the standard for the rest of the U.S. and maybe other regions.

I beleive the fines do start from $5,000 and go up! This is for the USA and varies else where.

Public safety is their main issue and this is why anyone breaching these laws will have the full weight of the law against them.
