Guidelines to prevent Plasma Burns 2007/09/03 10:38 Karma: 4
What techniques or guidelines have you or your business used to prevent Plasma burn-in's for your digital signage solution?

Advertise Me has used the following guidelines to prevent screen burn-ins:

Static Images/Templates (i.e. Logos)
- Do not leave static images i.e. Logos on the screen for more than 1 hour
- Static images i.e. Logos should be created with a maximum of 50% opacity
- It is recommended that Static images i.e. Logos be animated every now and then, or disappear then come back again.
- Static templates should be rotated more often, at least every 30 mins.
- It is ideal to have a number of templates in the playlist. 5 or more would be reasonable, so that the same (static) template does not cycle back soon.
- In just having 2 templates, and rotating them very often, does not help since the same template will be displayed again with the same static images at the same location.

New screens
- New plasma screens are more prone to burn-in during their first 100-200hrs of use.
- Adjust the contrast setting at or below 50%

Display output
- Always have the template play at full screen, rather than 4:3 with black bars on the side (or top & bottom)

At Advertise Me, we generally prefer to use LCD Screens to avoid any screen burn-ins.
