Digital Signage in the Medical Industry 2008/10/21 06:47 Karma: 2
We received the following comment on our digital signage blog post and we thought we would include it here so that it can be further discussed by our forum members:

Hey

Do you guys know anything about medical signs? That is, hospital signs, clinic signs, medical banners, other ways signage is used in the medical profession? I’ve got a background in the medical communication business (writing and editing) but find myself working in the sign business. I’m trying to marry the two interests. Curious to find out more about medical signage, if it even exists.

I think in hospital digital signage can definitely be used as a communication tool to educate visitors more about medical diseases etc. In some other areas, like the reception area it can be used to provide directions for visitors.

Whilst on this topic, I have to be honest with you and in the past we tried to get a foot in the medical industry by offering 1 month free digital signage to local medical centres in Australia. From all the medical centres we approached with this offer, none of them were interested. I honestly don't know why - maybe digital signage was still at its infancy and people were not interested or did not understand the full benefits of this technology.

What are your thoughts on this?

We install digital signage in medical centres and pharmacies.
Pharmacies are great we are currently installing Chemist warehouse, My Chemist & Terry White nationally (Australia & NZ). These groups have their own marketing campaigns which make it a viable proposition.
The problem with medical centres comes from the content side of the process. Most people in the MC are there for a specific complaint. A smart move would be to talk to the health dept. regarding their current campaigns for general health issues to educate patrons as opposed to trying to direct market this base. This would have more chance of increasing patronage as opposed to advertising drug companys.
Please feel free to call me (Mark) on 1300 661 888 if you would like to discuss further.
