July 2008 - Advertise Me has successfully installed a digital signage solution at newsXpress Crows Nest (previously known as Carpenters Newsagency). This was completed as part of the shop refit and the new branding. newsXpress is one of the largest newsagency franchises in Australia with over 140 stores nation wide and growing. newsXpress’s vision statement is “to create the ultimate newsagency shopping environment for the enjoyment of our customers by offering friendly, helpful and expert customer service and advice.”The requirementsnewsXpress Crows Nest engaged Advertise Me to provide them with a digital signage solution that would meet the following requirements:
• Intuitive - easy to manage and update the content
• Installation of two LCD screens that would fit on both sides of the entrance pillars without interfering with the roller door
• All screens needed to be installed in a portrait layout
• Scalable, so that the solution can eventually be managed from the newsXpress head office
• The solution needed to be able to display the same content to all three screens
The solution Based on the requirements, the Advertise Me team supplied the following digital signage solution:
• Two 22” Phillip LCD screens located near the entrance of the store positioned in portrait mode to engage and attract more customers into the store.
• One 32” Mitsubishi LCD screen strategically located at the magazine and newsagency stand. All the screens will be used to display targeted messages to inform and entertain its intended audience. The reason why it was installed in portrait mode was that most magazine companies and promotional posters are designed in this format.
• A four way tilting mounting bracket which supported both portrait and landscape screens. This enabled the screens to be positioned at the most effective viewing angle for passers by.
• A web-based Cayin digital signage player supporting full-screen HTML/Flash/JPG, High Definition video and streaming video playback. Out of the many digital signage players currently in the market, this particular digital signage player was selected due to its ability to support both landscape and portrait presentations. In addition, the system uses simple wizards that allows the store manager to easily update the content on the unit.
• Video Splitter to drive the same content to all three screens.
The digital signage solution will be used as a digital marketing strategy for newsXpress to display in-house advertisements, sales and promotions. In addition, the system can eventually be expanded and used as an internal communication tool for staff training and as an information sharing system.
Moving forward, the Advertise Me solution is scalable so that staff at the head office will eventually be able to control and update content to all the newsXpress digital signage players via a Content Management Server. The solution is also able to support multiple digital signage players located in various locations across Australia.
