Recently I've noticed some innovative audio systems with motion detection ie. when you move closer to an object being displayed (could be a painting, a product or a monument) it triggers the speakers. I think this is a great way to interact with the audience (can be quite startling at first for the listener) but it is effective in reaching the right audience - especially if it's right infront of the object being viewed.
I have particularly noticed this type of technology integrated with digital signage in museums.
